Plymouth Labour is suspending all active General Election campaigning today, Sunday.
I am sending my thoughts to the victims of the London Bridge terror attack. The terrorists must not disrupt our democracy. That is their aim but they will fail. They will not win.
Today I have issued the following statement with Luke Pollard, Labour candidates in Plymouth Sutton and Devonport:
"Out of respect for the victims of the London attacks last night, and their families and loved ones, Plymouth Labour is suspending all active General Election campaigning today, Sunday.
Quiet deliveries of leaflets and letters will continue, but all canvassing, public events and social media campaign posts will be suspended until this evening.
We will not, however, allow terror to derail democracy and our normal way of life, and so we will resume all campaigning across Plymouth tomorrow morning, Monday.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and loved ones today."
Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party has said:
"It is important to give a message that democracy must prevail. If we allow these attacks to disrupt our democratic process, then we all lose."
Labour is suspending its national campaigning activity, but local campaigns can continue.
